Penticton RCMP Drug Task Force officers arrested two Penticton residents after running them down in a foot chase on Wednesday.

"They were in the library parking lot and after fleeing on foot from the police, the male was caught by one of the officers who subsequently located a quantity of crack cocaine packaged for street level sales that the male tried to throw away while being pursued by the officer," said Cpl. Brad Myhre.

Officers arrested a 26-year-old male and a 19-year-old female — the woman was released later with no charges. The male was held for court facing anticipated charges of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

"Police also seized a substantial amount of cash ($1,000) from the male. The male was found to have a lengthy criminal record for his age, consisting of 19 previous criminal convictions and six prior drug trafficking convictions," said Myhre.
