Elderly Penticton woman robbed in own home

At approximately 8:15 p.m. Thursday the Penticton RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter and robbery on the 2800 block of Paris Street, the home of an elderly woman.
The lone male suspect fled after taking an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Penticton RCMP is seeking public assistance and wish to notify the community to help safeguard against further incidents.
A lone male knocked on the woman’s door requesting to use the phone, stating his vehicle had run out of gas and wanted to call someone to come and get him. While speaking with the male at the door, he eventually pushed his way into the residence and demanded money, obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and fled. The RCMP Police Dog Services was immediately utilized however was unable to locate the male in the expanded perimeter search area.
During the ordeal the woman was assaulted by the lone male and suffered multiple abrasions. The victim was transported to the Penticton Regional Hospital where she remained for an overnight observation period.
“We do need to advise the public of this incident for several reasons, firstly in order to make everyone in the community aware in order to better safeguard against, and minimize to the chance that anyone else will be victimized by this individual. As well, to assist the Penticton General Investigation Section in conducting the investigation," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. "Please be vigilant and take safety precautions, as a community and neighbors watch out for one another and report anything suspicious. We are seeking information from anyone who may be able to help us identify the person responsible for this reprehensible criminal act, that targeted a member of our most vulnerable community population."
"The suspect is described as, Caucasian male, approximately 30 years old, shorter, wearing a maroon t-shirt, scruffy hair, unshaven face and dark complexion. His hair was approximately two inches and dark. He may have fled towards the Wal-Mart area of Green Avenue and Skaha Lake Road", added Moskaluk.
