Two Okanagan residents have died following a motorcycle crash near Hedley over the weekend.
A 48-year-old Okanagan man and 20-year-old Okanagan woman were killed when, at about 6:45 p.m., the motorcycle they had been riding smashed into a Mercedes attempting to cross Highway 3 about five kilometres west of Hedley Saturday.
Both occupants of the bike were thrown off upon impact. The male died at the scene, while the 20-year-old woman was rushed by ambulance to Keremeos, where she was airlifted to Penticton Regional Hospital. She was then airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital where she was initially listed in critical condition before succumbing to her injuries Tuesday. The names of the deceased have not been released.
The 68-year-old Alberta man who had been driving the Mercedes was transported to Princeton Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police said the crash caused the highway to be closed for almost five hours on Saturday.
South Okanagan Traffic Services is continuing the investigation.
