Business bracing for flu outbreak

Join us on Nov. 13 at 7 a.m. at the Sandman Hotel as we welcome speakers Rick Erland, leader of health emergency management, planning and improvement from Interior Health, and Pam Rorie, public health nurse, who co-facilitates the local influenza clinics for Penticton.

Are you ready for a flu pandemic? Officials in the health sector warn that the H1N1 virus could reach pandemic proportions. Does your business have a plan of action and what would you do if 50 per cent of your staff were off due to illness? Afterwards, there will be a short question and answer period. This breakfast networker is only $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Call 250-492-4103 as your space must be booked in advance.

The Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce is having its annual general meeting on Nov. 25 at noon at the Penticton Golf and Country Club. Nominations for the 2010 board of directors are currently being sought. Directors provide leadership, direction and expertise from year to year to maintain a high standard of advocacy, services, programs and opportunities delivered by the chamber. In addition, the directors play an important role in enhancing the business and economic climate and quality of life for citizens of Penticton.

We have nine positions available this coming year. If you are interested in becoming a part of this dynamic organization or just would like more information about being more involved please give us a call at 250-492-4103.

Our guest speaker at this year’s AGM is Josh Dueck. Josh is an avid skier and member of the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team.  He is one of the top skiers in the world and the reigning 2007 and 2008 Canadian champion.  In the past few months he has travelled all over North America, South America, Europe and Asia in search of snow and competitions, working towards his dream of being the best sit skier in the world.  Now that he has met all the criteria he is very excited to be representing Canada at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

Our next Business after Business is at Guerard’s Furniture located at 70 Westminster Ave. on Nov. 19 from 5-7 p.m. This is your opportunity to meet the candidates for the 2010 chamber board of directors and hear each candidate as they explain briefly their reasons for putting their name forward to be on the chamber’s board of directors.

Leading Effective Meetings is a workshop you won’t want to miss if you participate in meetings of any kind and would like to make them run more efficiently. The workshop will be held in the Wine Country Visitor Centre boardroom on Thursday from 3–5 p.m. The cost is only $25 and you can reserve by calling 250-492-4103.
