The Ministry of the Environment is investigating a pile burn that was ignited last Friday just west of the west end of the by pass and Highway 3 in Keremeos.

The burn pile contained a large number of items that are restricted under provincial environmental laws.

“It took nine firefighters approximately three hours to extinguish the blaze,” said Melanie Bagley, KVFD spokesperson. Two engines and the departments’ bush truck were on scene as well.

“The fire contained a number of items that are illegal to burn,’ Bagley said, “and it proved very time consuming to pull it apart in order to extinguish it.”
