A group of adults from the Southern Interior Association for Integrated Community Living recently found out what it’s like to be a firefighter in Okanagan Falls.

Clients from the Osoyoos/Oliver Day Program had a blast by learning the ropes from members of the Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Members showed the excited clients various equipment and vehicles, and taught them the rules of fire safety. The highlight of the day was wearing helmets and handling fire hoses in Centennial Park.

The Osoyoos/Oliver Day Program teaches life skills and offers various activities, games and outings. The clients involved in this outing sincerely thank the Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department, especially members Peter Maliepaard, Fred Dobransky, Russell Chartier, Dale Stevenson, Scott Stephens and Martin Zenuik.

In other fire department news, members raised more than $400 for muscular dystrophy as part of their annual fundraising efforts. Members Martin Zenuik, Kris Poole, Lyonel Doherty and Rick Fleming set up a barbecue at Marketplace IGA and sold hotdogs for the cause. Special thanks go out to IGA proprietor E.J. Marcello for providing all the hotdogs, buns and condiments as part of his contribution.
