(NC)—At least 26 million gallons of oil enter North American waters annually due to daily human activities, putting sensitive wildlife particularly at risk. Just one drop of oil the size of a dime on a bird’s body or wings can actually damage its insulated layer of down feathers, causing the animal to freeze to death. Alarmingly, both cooking and motor oils can be harmful to these delicate creatures.

For 30 years, wildlife rescuers have used Dawn dishwashing liquid to gently remove oil and help save wildlife affected by oil spills. Animal rescue organizations choose Dawn because it removes the greasy oil—while being gentle on delicate feathers and skin. During the Alberta oil spill in 2005, Dawn dishwashing liquid donated thousands of bottles of product to help save the lives of those affected birds.

While only a select group of people may have the ability to be in the field as part of a wildlife rescue efforts, everyone can take part in the fight for conservation. Now, when you buy a bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid and activate your donation online, Dawn donates one dollar* to help save wildlife.

*Must activate donation online. Maximum donation $500,000 for CAN and US. Expires 12/31/09.
