A reminder that on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. WALC is inviting residents to participate in a community hike up the recently completed first section of a three phase trail building project on Spion Kop. The meeting place for the hike will be at the end of Apex Drive in the Lakes neighborhood.

Dev Fraser, president of WALC, says that the section of trail that will be explored will take hikers to the Ellison Ridge south viewpoint. From this vantage walkers will be able to see three lakes—Okanagan, Duck and Wood—and Fraser promises that the landscape is stunning to gaze upon.

With an average grade of 10 per cent Fraser says the 45 minute hike to the viewpoint would be best described as intermediate.

Some residents may want to be a part of the trail opening celebration but will have reservations about committing to such a long climb. For this group of hikers Fraser says the first half a kilometer is very flat and guided tours of just this limited section of the trail will also be available.

Ex Nihilo Winery in Lake Country is thrilled to announce that they raised $1082 for the local Lake Country and Kelowna Food Banks.

Over the course of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival one dollar from every bottle of wine sold at Ex Nihilo Vineyards was donated to the Food Banks.

ìWe feel it is important to give back to the community and plan to repeat the campaign for next Fallís wine festival. We thank everyone who took the time to visit the winery and to help make it possible,î comments Decoa Harder, Proprietor of Ex Nihilo Vineyards.

Ex Nihilo expects to have even greater results next year when their new 7,500 square foot winery expansion will have been completed and become fully operational. The expansion will enable the winery to accomodate more visitors and to add some exciting on-site events during the festival.
