Keremeos council news
It was a relatively uneventful meeting of Keremeos Village Council that took place on Monday September 21.
A recently tendered contract to rehabilitate Fourth Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues was awarded to Harris Transport for $55,935.81 after receiving council approval.
The quote came in at an amount higher than originally budgeted by the village, which had cost out the project at $39,500.
Extra funding for the project was also requested in the order of $3,500 in order to construct catch basins. Apparently, several residents requested more adequate storm drainage from the village.
Council approved staff’s request for another $9,627.81 in order to accommodate the higher price. The additional funds will come from the village’s road reserve account.
The original budgeted amount for the project was made early in the year when costs for oil, materials, and labour was considerably less than now.
Councillor Bauer broached the issue of the museum society’s disappointment with council over their lack of support for the society’s efforts to acquire the old RCMP building.
“The sale of the RCMP building is a done deal,” he told members of council. “Perhaps it is time that council put this matter to rest, to put misunderstandings aside and move on.”
Council agreed that it was time to break new ground with the museum society and start a new foundation for the relationship.
It was agreed that Councillor Thielmann initiate discussions with the group in order to try to move the relationship in a new direction.
