Keremeos Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest started in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Theresa. Oktoberfest is now celebrated all over the world with music, dancing, games, beer, wine and gastronomic delights. The celebration continues in Keremeos where Similkameen Chapter #78 Order of the Eastern Star held their 3rd Annual Oktoberfest in Victory Hall on Saturday October 3. It was a packed house with almost 200 people attending. The hall had colourfully decorated tables plus 200 helium balloons distributed around the room.
Rave reviews abounded for the traditional Bavarian meal which included schnitzel, bratwurst on a bun, sauteed onions, sauerkraut, potato salad and black forest cake.
Many people enjoyed meeting old friends as tables laden with pretzels were set up in the German Beer Hall style; everyone enjoyed the delicious Oktoberfest beer from the keg. To the music of the Heiner Schwetje Band couples swept around the dance floor in their traditional Bavarian outfits and prizes were given for those attired in their Oktoberfest finery. These weren’t the only prizes; just about everyone attending the evening left with arms loaded as there were many door, spot dance, and balloon prizes, beer steins and a silent auction.
Eastern Star would like to thank all the local companies who
