Climbing wall needs volunteers

The climbing wall at the Similkameen Recreation Centre needs a few more volunteers to the venue through the winter season.

The climbing wall is open on Friday evenings, beginning November 6, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tim Roberts is in charge of the venue. He generally looks for a total of eight or nine volunteers to spread out the work. If that many people come forward, the commitment would only amount to one shift every month and a half.

“The more volunteers, the better,” said rec centre manager Karl Donoghue. “Tim will provide those interested with training.”

The climbing wall has been a part of the rec centre since 1996. It is 20 feet high, with an overhang that provides a challenge for youth interested in rock climbing. The centre provides ropes and harnessses to those wishing to use the facility

Interested persons are asked to call 250-499-2593.
