Warriors win over Burnaby
Published: November 07, 2009 1:00 AMKevin Jebson made 38 saves and Tyler Krause scored twice to lead the Westside Warriors to a 5-2 victory over the Burnaby Express in B.C. Hockey League action Friday night at Royal LePage Place.
Krause had a tough first period, as passes bounced over his stick and he seemed to have no puck luck until late in the frame when he pounced on a rebound, made a good move in tight on Burnaby goaltender Harrison May and tucked it in the open side to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead with seven seconds remaining in the first.
Early in the second while killing a penalty, Krause, an 18-year-old from Kelowna, used his speed to join a rush and converted a nice Colton Sissons pass to put the Warriors up 3-0.
“Tyler has deceptive speed,” Warriors assistant coach Greg Lynott said after the game. “He seems to come out of nowhere – he’s been strong for us.”
Jebson, a 20-year-old from Surrey, was solid all night, especially in the second period when he turned aside all 19 of Burnaby’s shots.
Patrick Bartoshyk, Cole Wilson and Trevor Bailey (into an empty net) also scored for the Warriors. Dylan Herold and Matt Ius scored for Burnaby, which outshot the Warriors 40-34.
The Warriors travel to Burnaby on Saturday for the back of this home and home against the Express. The Warriors host the Langley Chiefs on Tuesday at Royal LePage Place (7 p.m. start). Next weekend has a key Interior Conference home-and-home between the Warriors and their arch-rival Penticton Vees. They play Friday, Nov. 13 in Penticton and Saturday, Nov. 14 at Royal LePage Place.
