Ok Rockets drop from first place
A grueling trip to Prince George was too much for the Okanagan Rockets major midget team as it dropped two games to the Cariboo Cougars and fell out of first place in the BCMML.
After a slow start on Saturday the Rockets carried the play in the second and third periods. Kyle Clerke scored in the first while Max Mowat added another in the second but the Rockets could get no more and fell 3-2 to the Cougars despite out shooting the Prince George based club 27-21.
The Cougars scored the winner with 11 seconds to go in the third.
On Sunday, the Rockets quickly fell into penalty trouble and couldn’t keep pace with the Cougars, who skated to a 4-1 win. Colton Sparrow scored the Rockets’ lone goal.
Down 3-1 late in the game and on a power play goaltender Conor Barrie headed to the bench for the extra attacker, but the Cougars fired the puck into the empty net to seal a 4-1 win.
The Rockets will aim to get back to their winning ways this weekend when they play a pair of games against the South Island Thunderbirds at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.
The losses drop Okanagan to 8-3-1 and third place in the 11 team league.
