The perennial champion Kelowna Secondary School Owls hope to celebrate Halloween with yet another Okanagan Valley girls field hockey title.
The 2009 tournament will be held this Saturday at the Mission’s outdoor turf behind CNC.
The first semifinal at 9 a.m. will feature KSS against Mt. Boucherie, while Pen-Hi will battle Kamloops at 10:30 a.m.
The final will be played at 4:30 p.m. with the winner earning a direct berth to the provincials Nov. 11 to 13 in Burnaby. The runner-up will be eligible to play for a wild card berth Nov. 4 in Chilliwack.
Meanwhile, the Owls tuned up for valleys by dominating their annual Golden Pumpkin tournament last weekend in Kelowna.
Kelowna didn’t allow a goal in five games, securing the title with a 2-0 win over Collingwood in the final. The Owls other victories came over OKM (3-0), Rossland (4-0), South Kam (2-0) and Oliver (3-0).
Ellie Deschner posted the shutout in all five games. Natalie Sourisseau scored six goals over the weekend to lead the Owls offense, Jonel Boileau added four, Jen Pitura had two, while Breezy Beaudry and Morgan Stone scored one apiece.
The KSS B team placed eighth, while OKM was ninth.
