The Liquid Lightning Swim Club has hired Emil Dimitrov as its new head coach.
Dimitrov brings over 17 years of coaching experience to the Lightning, including 14 years as head coach of the Milton Marlins Swim Club in Ontario.
Most recently, he was head of the age group program with the University of Calgary Swim Club.
Over the years, Dimitrov has trained national level swimmers including David Dimitrov, Jennifer Porenta and Kristin McIlroy.
Dimitrov says that his coaching philosophy focuses heavily on swimming technique.
“In my experience it is proper technique, especially at the developmental level, that provides the best foundation for success and reduces the risk of injury or burnout,” he said. “As a result I have never had a swimmer suffer a swimming related injury during my 17 years of head coaching. “
The Liquid Lightning is a youth swim club based in West Kelowna.
Registration for the upcoming swim season takes place Sept. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Johnson-Bentley pool in West Kelowna.
