Thirteen arrested in drug sweep

Thirteen people are facing drug trafficking charges after a downtown sweep by undercover officers.
RCMP Const. Steve Holmes said the Downtown Enforcement Unit conducted the third street-level drug sweep of the year in early October.
He noted that nine men and four women are being charged, and all have been banned from the Red Zone area of downtown.
“Police believe this is responsible for the fact that no one was arrested in more than one of the three drug sweeps,” said Holmes.
He noted that those people picked up who entered a guilty plea have received sentences from 15 weeks to 22 months in jail.
Holmes pointed out that the three operations conducted this year have resulted in 41 people charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
