Kelowna homicide: Gun shots ring out in park

Police are searching for suspects in Kelowna's third homicide of the year.

Kelowna RCMP were called to Millbridge Park off Bowes Street during the early morning hours of Oct. 27, after they received a call at 2:20 a.m. RCMP Const. Steve Holmes said a man was taken to Kelowna General Hospital, and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Neighbour Lynne Jensen said she was still awake early that morning. She said she heard five shots at close to 1 a.m., but no other sounds. She noted that the park does occasionally have people going through it, but it has not been the scene of any major issues.

Holmes said the cause of the man's death has yet to be determined. He added that police are exploring the report of gunshots fired in relation to the investigation. The deceased man was known to police for infractions of the Criminal Code.

Investigators retrieved a gun from a grassy area near the bridge over Mill Creek. The weapon appeared to be a revolver-style pistol.
