Tanker truck, car accident closes Highway 97 Thursday morning
RCMP investigate an accident south of Vernon which closed Hwy 97 Thursday morning.

Highway 97 south of Vernon was closed in both directions for several hours Thursday morning following a two-vehicle accident.
Vernon RCMP report that shortly before 10 a.m., a the driver of a northbound car crossed the centre line and struck a southbound tractor trailer unit.
The accident took place between Birnie Road and Bailey Road.
“The female driver, in her 50s, was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital,” said Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.
As of early Thursday afternoon, the woman was listed in serious condition.
The driver of the truck was unhurt.
The highway was closed as crews worked to clean up diesel fuel that spilled as a result of the accident.
Police and flag personnel rerouted traffic around the scene until the highway re-opened just after 1 p.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
