Stanley Nickason keeps stealing cars.
The Kelowna man was arrested Oct. 7 after members of an RCMP auto theft team noticed the 28-year-old Nickason driving a stolen Ford Mustang.
RCMP Const. Steve Holmes said Nickason was arrested when he came back to the car after leaving it on Primrose Road.
“At the time of his arrest, Nickason was in possession of identification that had previously been reported stolen from a vehicle,” said Holmes.
“He was also carrying brass knuckles, which are a prohibited weapon, and cocaine.”
Nickason was charged with theft over and possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a prohibited weapon, driving while prohibited and eight counts of breach of recognizance.
He remains in custody, awaiting a bail hearing on Oct. 20.
Holmes said Nickason is well known to RCMP for a number of crime and drug-related offences.
He added the breaches stem from an attempted carjacking in March of last year, when Nickason was caught running from a stolen vehicle he was in while in possession of a handgun.
After being released on bail in July of this year, Nickason was arrested several days later for possession of cocaine and counterfeit money. He was again released until this most recent incident.
Nickason’s arrest was the product of a temporary assist to the Kelowna RCMP from the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team based in the Lower Mainland.
Over the course of the four-day operation, police recovered four stolen vehicles.
