The federal and provincial governments will provide $835,800 in a cost-shared grant under the Housing Renovation Partnership to renovate and retrofit Lake Country social housing in greatest need of repair.
“This partnership ensures that constituents of Kelowna-Lake Country are provided vital housing services,” said Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan.
“We are aware of the many needs in our region and continue to work together with all levels of government and community partners to develop solutions.”
“Our province is committed to making affordable housing available to seniors and those with disabilities,” added Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick.
“These new supportive housing units provide options and are important to the social well-being of our community.”
Cedar Court social housing development will receive funding for repairs and renovations, focusing on sustainability upgrades.
Sustainability upgrades include installing low flow fixtures, boiler upgrades, lighting retrofits, building air sealing, and improvements to exterior envelopes for enhanced thermal performance.
Of the total $176.76 million announced for the HRP initiative, the majority of the funding, $163.7 million will be directed toward repairs at 81 social housing developments.
The remainder of the funding, $13.06 million, is being allocated to renovations that are already underway at provincially-owned single room occupancy hotels.
