A drunken passenger forced a flight from Vancouver to Fort McMurray to land in Kelowna.

RCMP Sgt. Ann Morrison said a man on board the Air Canada Jazz flight stole some beer from the beverage cart. She added the man tried to hide some of the evidence by trying to flush an empty beer can down the aircraft toilet.

Morrison noted the air crew became concerned and requested the plane land in Kelowna. RCMP responded to the airport close to 2 p.m. and took the intoxicated man into custody.

Morrison said the man will be facing charges.

Two other men were interviewed about the incident and released. The plane continued on to Fort McMurray after its brief stop.
