High-end mountain bikes stolen

Local mountain biking stalwarts are pleading for the return of two stolen bikes.
Bike owners Jack Meenaghan and Jeff Rempel are professional riders who do downhill and free-riding on behalf of outdoor retailer Venture Gear.
The bikes were stolen from the back of a pickup truck outside the McCulloch Pub during the evening of Oct. 2. The two Marin Quake bikes were locked up in the back of the truck. Both have grey anodized aluminum frames, one with a pink camouflage design on the wheels.
Meenaghan said the thief or thieves appeared to have cut through the cable lock using bolt cutters. He noted the bikes are worth about $4,500 each. The bikes are high-end specialized rides, with custom parts added. Meenaghan said he does not have insurance on his bike, or a replacement ride.
"I was pretty upset – it was pretty stressful."
Rempel said Meenaghan and his girlfriend left the pub first and discovered the bikes were missing.
"I didn't even go out right away, I just put my head in my hands," he said. "We ride a lot, sometimes every day of the week. I spend a lot of time on that bike."
Rempel pointed out that the new-model bikes are uncommon in Kelowna, and are fairly recognizable, with wide downhill tires and rear shock absorbers.
"There's probably only half a dozen people that ride them in town."
Anyone with information on the theft of the bikes can call Venture Gear at 250-979-4327, or contact Meenaghan at 250-870-3174 or Rempel at 250-718-5590.
