Police stopping a vehicle for speeding ended up making a drug bust, Sunday on Highway 97.

Members of the RCMP’s North Okanagan Traffic Services unit were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 97 near the Predator Ridge turnoff shortly before 4:30 p.m. when an officer picked up a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed.

After stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, an RCMP officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which was subsequently searched by police.

In the vehicle were 55 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of marijuana bud and more than $2,000 in cash, all of which were seized by officers.

The driver, a 28-year-old male, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 25-year-old female passenger was also arrested, then released on a promise to appear in court.

Both suspects are from the Vernon-Kelowna area.
