Cop dog tracks assault suspect

A man caught assaulting his girlfriend in City Park got more than he bargained for.

The man, who was spotted beating up his girlfriend in the local park on Aug. 24, fled from police on foot.

RCMP Const. Steve Holmes said the man did not stop for officers, who chased him towards Ellis Street, where the fugitive disappeared down a back alley.

“They lost sight of him, and called in the dog.”

The police dog, named Talon, picked up the scent and pursued the man into an alley behinc 454 Lawrence Ave.

Holmes said the man was discovered lying in the tall grass along the wall of the building. He surrendered when the dog approached.

“It was an uneventful arrest.”

The man was taken into custody by officers, and is now facing charges of assault and obstruction.
