UPDATE – Search for man in Okanagan Lake continues
Updated: July 30, 2009 2:02 PM
The search continued yesterday for a man who was lost in Okanagan Lake on Tuesday evening.
A police boat and a team of divers spent the day on the lake trying to pinpoint a search area. Search crews scanned the area with a depth finder, establishing a depth of 200 feet in the search zone. No objects were detected.
Underwater searching has been postponed until sonar equipment can arrive from the Lower Mainland.
Search personnel are continuing to examine the surface of the lake and perform aerial flyovers by helicopter.
Police reported earlier this week that the 41-year-old man and his wife were boating across Okanagan Lake from the west shore on Tuesday evening. In the middle of the lake, the man stopped the boat to go for a swim around 7 p.m. He was using a pool flotation toy to stay afloat, but lost his grip on the toy and called for help.
The man's wife jumped into the water to help him, but was unable to keep him afloat. He disappeared from her sight.
