Search crews are combing Okanagan Lake for a Kelowna man who has possibly drowned.

RCMP report that a 41-year-old man and his wife were boating across Okanagan Lake from the west shore on Tuesday evening. In the middle of the lake, the man stopped the boat to go for a swim around 7 p.m. He was using a pool flotation toy to stay afloat, but lost his grip on the toy and called for help.

The man's wife jumped into the water to help him, but was unable to keep him afloat. He disappeared from her sight.

Another boater nearby arrived within a few minutes and also jumped into the water to look for the man, but could not find him.

Police, fire and Search and Rescue crews searched the lake surface until midnight Tuesday, but found no trace of the Kelowna man. Crews are resuming the search today in boats, assisted by the RCMP Air 3 helicopter and a police dive team.
