Kelowna RCMP have resumed their search for a man who fell off a boat in Okanagan Lake and drowned on June 22.
The initial search for the body had been put on hold until police had the right equipment to carry out the search in water up to 100 metres deep.
A Nanaimo company, In Depth Nanaimo, was on the lake where the man disappeared Monday morning to resume the search effort.
In Depth is equipped with a sonar and remote controlled underwater vehicle.
As of noon, today the search hadn’t yet turned up the missing boater.
The 48-year-old drowning victim, yet to identified by police, reportedly fell in the middle of the lake, between the Tolko mill and the Westside shoreline, while teaching a female friend how to drive the boat. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
The woman, who circled back to try and find the man, dove into the water to try and find him, but when the wind starting pushing the boat away from her, she had to swim back and climb aboard to keep it under control.
Once back in the boat, she couldn’t locate the man in the water and called police.
