Kelowna members of the Okanagan Sikh Temple celebrate first Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 540th birthday with a week-long food drive in support of the Kelowna Community Food Bank, donating more htan 1,000 lbs. of food items.

“Guru Nanak Dev Ji remains a revered figure in Sikh culture, esteemed for living and teaching about love, generosity, and service,” said Paramjit Patara, the temple president. “He was devoted to feeding the needy.”   

“It is a meaningful gesture,” said Lenetta Thordarson, assistant executive director of the food bank. “It is a way for their members to continue Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s work. It is a living tribute to a remarkable humanitarian.”
