It took a Terasen Gas crew under 50 minutes to cap a gas leak on McCurdy near Highway 97 Tuesday morning.
Highway traffic heading north past McCurdy was down to one lane after an excavator tore open a four inch distribution gas line.
The inside, fast lane remained open and under the control of Kelowna traffic police who rerouted traffic away from McCurdy, starting at 10:50 a.m.
By 11:10 a.m., traffic was backed up to Leathhead.
Highway traffic south bound was not affected.
A Terasen spokesperson on the scene said a four-inch distribution line was hit by an excavator. Early investigation suggested the leak could take hours to remedy but the Terasen crew had the line capped by 11:38 a.m. and were wrapped up by 11:45 a.m.
