RCMP received a call from a female in West Kelowna on Saturday Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m., reporting that she and a female friend had been threatened with a knife at a residence in West Kelowna.

The suspect, estranged boyfriend, 28-year-old Michael Ryan Burwell, departed the scene before police arrived.

A pursuit started when a responding member noted his vehicle, a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix with licence plate 595 RAJ, headed west on 97C at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.

It is believed that Burwell is using cocaine and heroine and was high at the time of the offence.

A short time later, at 5 p.m., BURWELL called the complainant from a pay phone at the Ramada in Penticton. Members attended that location but Burwell was gone.

According to the complainant, Burwell resides in Langley, B.C. Langley members attended his last known address and learned that he had moved six months ago. It's assumed that he is of no fixed address.

At 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, Burwell called the c omplainant again, this time from a pay phone on Hwy 33 in Kelowna, near Costco. Members attended but he was not located.

Burwell is a high risk offender and is known to carry knives.

A province-wide warrant of arrest was issued for Burwell for charges of assault with a weapon, mischief, uttering threats and causing a pursuit.

Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating Burwell. If either he, or his vehicle are seen, or if his whereabouts are known, contact the West Kelowna RCMP office at 250-768-2880, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
