Carrs Landing house fire spreads to truck

A Carrs Landing resident found out this afternoon just how fast a fire can spread and how destructive it can be.

Lake Country firefighters responded to several 9-1-1 calls made regarding smoke arising from a structure fire at 13774 Lake Pine Rd.

When firefighters arrived at about 3:30 p.m., the fire had started up in the detached cottage, which was isolated from the main house on the property.

But before they could respond, the fire took off into nearby trees and engulfed a pickup truck parked next to the cottage.

The heat from the flames split the gas tank, causing the gas to leak out and create a perpetual flame underneath the truck until it was burned up.

Lake Country Fire Chief Steve Windsor said both the cause and the damage toll of the fire was still unknown.

The tenant of the cottage was not hurt in the fire.
