A high-speed car crash in Port Alberni sent one person to hospital and caused damage to multiple vehicles on Tuesday morning.

Port Alberni RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service responded to a single-vehicle crash on the corner of Third Avenue and Bute Street at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Nov. 14.

According to Port Alberni RCMP, a white Nissan was driving well above the posted speed limit along Third Avenue when the driver attempted to turn onto Bute Street, but lost control and hit a curb. The car then hit a flagpole, spun around and slammed into a number of parked vehicles nearby as well as a tree. Once the car came to a complete stop, the tree fell onto the car and other parked vehicles.

Police say the Nissan driver, a 46-year-old Port Alberni resident, was uninjured while a passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was issued a ticket for driving without due care.
