WEB EXTRA: Woman, 21, killed in two-vehicle crash

A 21-year-old woman who wasn’t wearing a seat belt is dead, after the truck she was driving allegedly ran a red light and slammed into an oncoming vehicle on Wednesday evening.
Around 8:10 p.m. the female driver, who had a passenger with her, was driving east on 72 Avenue at a high rate of speed when she attempted to make a left turn at the intersection of 208 Street, said police.
Her pickup truck collided with a southbound car. The 21-year-old was ejected from the truck.
She was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Her passenger and the two occupants of the car received minor injuries.
The victim’s name is being withheld until notification of her next of kin, said police. She most recently resided in Abbotsford.
In B.C. there has been an average of one fatality a day during the month of July.
In Langley, 33 per cent of all fatalities occur due to vehicle occupants not wearing their seat belts, said Langley RCMP traffic Sgt. Gerard Sokolowski.
Another 33 per cent occur due to aggressive driving, with the majority of collisions occurring at intersections.
The remainder of collisions are attributed to impaired driving.
