Police have identified the woman murdered in Whalley last weekend.
Melissa Jean Chatham, 24, of Delta, was found dead at a home near 103 Ave. and 140 Street Sunday morning.
Surrey resident Kelly David McKenzie, 36, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Chatham.
Police say the two knew each other through a "previous relationship."
McKenzie remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Friday.
A Facebook page has been created in memory of Chatham and currently has over 150 members.
A brief description on it reads:
"Melissa Jean Chatham was born March 12, 1984 and was suddenly taken away from us all at such a young age... Heaven has a beautiful new angel looking down on us all."
Cpl. Dale Carr, spokesperson for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, was contacted by the Chatham family and asked to provide the following statement:
“This is a very difficult time for the family and we are sure you will understand our request for privacy. We are focused on remembering and grieving the loss of our daughter and sister. We have nothing else to say.”
