Cowichan teen stabbed to death
A confrontation between two groups of Duncan teens has left one dead and two more in police custody.
A 17-year-old Cowichan Tribes youth was declared dead at Cowichan District Hospital shortly after being discovered by police at about 11:18 p.m., near the intersection of Canada Avenue and Third Street downtown.
Staff Sgt. Charlie Schaal of North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said he was found lying on the ground in a group of other teens.
Schaal said indications are two groups of youths became involved in a verbal exchange that escalated into a foot chase.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, chased after members of the opposing group and was found by friends shortly after. He was seated at first, then collapsed sometime prior to police arriving.
Two "persons of interest" were later apprehended in a Duncan home without incident. Both are under 18.
