NEWS BYTES: Heroin arrest, street name change, agri strategy

AIRPORT HEROIN ARREST

An Abbotsford man was arrested at Vancouver International Airport after four kilograms of heroin was found stashed in his luggage. The luggage of the 38-year-old suspect was searched by Canadian Border Service Agency officers, who found the drugs lodged in the false sides of two suitcases on Feb. 22. He was arrested and taken into custody by RCMP Federal Drug Enforcement

investigators. Police are not

releasing the man’s name. He was not known to police

previous to his arrest. The

man is facing a charge of

possession for the purpose of trafficking.

STREET NAME CHANGE

A date has been set for the

official unveiling of the new street name change in downtown Abbotsford. On April 8 at 4:30 p.m. Mayor George Peary, members of the Gosling

family and other guests will be on hand to see the old Cyprus Street changed to Gosling Way. The event takes place at the intersection of Montrose Avenue and Cyprus Street. The public is welcome to attend. The Gosling name has been associated with the downtown core for almost a century. The Goslings store was a mainstay for more than 80 years.

AGRI STRATEGY

The City of Abbotsford is

developing an agriculture

strategy and is seeking the

public’s input. Neighbourhood meetings were held in the fall of 2009 and the public feedback has been summarized into key issues and options. These

findings will presented at a

public open house on Wednesday, March 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jackson Elementary School located at 33165 King Road. For more information visit www. abbotsford.ca/development_services. The link to the webpage is under What’s New and Quick Links.
