Olympic skaters will take to ice in PoMo
Even if you don’t have tickets to the Olympics, you can still see some of the figure skating athletes in action during two training sessions at the Port Moody arena.
Teams from Canada, Great Britain and the U.S. are using the local facility to fine-tune their routines during the Games and while most of the sessions are closed to the public, both the Canadian and British teams are hosting a free viewing.
You can catch a glimpse of Canada’s medal hopefuls Friday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and Britain’s on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be multiple viewing sessions on both days, each 30 to 40 minutes in duration.
The sessions are not performances but will give visitors a chance to see athletes working on parts of their programs and conferring with coaches.
There are no ticket sales or advance seating — everything is first-come, first-served — and seating is limited to the upper spectator area, with no access to rink-side or the athletes.
Due to the limited seating capacity, staff will accommodate as many people as they can in the 30- to 40-minute shifts but interested spectators should come prepared for a lengthy wait.
And keep in mind there will be no photographs or video allowed during the practice sessions.
