Grow op shut down

Two people are facing multiple charges after Burnaby RCMP shut down a significant and sophisticated marijuana grow operation this week.

As a result of a Crime Stoppers tip, the Burnaby RCMP drug squad executed a search warrant Tuesday at a home in the 8100-block of Lakefield Drive. The entire basement was dedicated to the grow op while the family–parents and children–lived in the rest of the three-storey house.

More than 1,200 marijuana plants were seized and the Ministry of Children and Family Development has been contacted. Grow ops pose a potential for serious safety issues, such as fire hazards, health risks and criminal activity.

Anyone with information on grow operations is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
