An autopsy will be performed on a Mission man who died Friday in Maple Ridge.

Ridge Meadows RCMP found the 27-year-old’s lifeless body inside an apartment at Belmar Terrace at 11671 Fraser Street around 7 p.m.

Insp. Derren Lench said foul play is not suspected in his death.

The Mission resident had been shot in the foot, but Lench added investigators feel the wound did not cause his death.

Circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.

“He died from other causes, which will be determined through the autopsy,” Lench said.

The man’s roommate called paramedics after discovering his friend dead Friday evening.

The deceased and his roommate had been visiting another friend at his apartment in Maple Ridge.

The trio had partied the previous night and the man was found by his friends the next day.

“He had fallen asleep and when they went to wake him up, there were no signs of life,” Lench said. “There seem to be some indications that drugs may be involved in his death.”

Toxicology tests will be performed following an autopsy.

Police are not releasing the man’s name at the request of the family.

A memorial service for him will be held on Saturday at the Garden Hill Funeral Chapel in Maple Ridge.
