Flood warnings and evacuation orders remained in force Saturday evening as residents and officials coped with Cowichan’s flooding emergency.

The good news was folks displaced by flooded homes had found accommodation and the emergency reception centre at Island Savings Centre was closed at around 3 p.m. Nov. 21, officials said.

“Everyone has found other places to go,” one regional staffer said at around 6 p.m.

Evacuation alerts remained in place but residents were allowed to go into their homes if they felt it was safe.

Those evacuation orders stick until provincial evaluators have inspected flooded homes.

Affected folks will get an update Sunday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. in the community centre’s Heritage Hall where officials will explain safety and insurance processes and more.
