A Quesnel RCMP officer is facing an assault charge relating to his handling of a prisoner at the Quesnel Detachment, July 20, 2009.
Quesnel RCMP initiated an investigation after another RCMP member reported observing Cst. Tim Wang allegedly assault a handcuffed prisoner by slapping his face. The prisoner was not injured. All circumstances surrounding the incident were forwarded to Crown Counsel for their review.
One count of assault was approved. Cst. Wang appears in Quesnel Provincial Court, Dec. 8, 2009.
Cst. Wang, a member with just over 12 years service, remains on active duty.
"Duty status is something that's reviewed by the member's Line Officer in the detachment, subject to review by Senior Management in the Division. If it's deemed that the police officer can continue to contribute in a meaningful way, and more importantly that the alleged offending behaviour will not recur, the member will remain on duty in some capacity, " says Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, "E" Division spokesperson.
"In this case the member remains on active duty."
A separate internal Code of Conduct investigation into the incident is also continuing.
