Two suspects in a Surrey armed robbery were tracked down and arrested in east Burnaby Wednesday morning.
It all started at about 5:30 a.m. when Surrey RCMP were called to a fast food restaurant near 110th Avenue and Scott Road which had just been robbed. A description of the suspects' vehicle was provided and officers broadcast the details in hopes of locating the late model silver Honda.
The suspect vehicle was found a short time later at a nearby home known to be connected to the drug trade. While police monitored the home, two males and a female left and got into the Honda. As police approached, the vehicle backed up, almost hitting an officer and striking one of the police cars. Officers fired shots at the vehicle out of concern for their safety, say RCMP.
A police chase of the suspect vehicle started but was terminated a short time later.
Then, at about 7:30 a.m., two men hired a taxi in Surrey. The taxi driver drove them to Burnaby before the suspects carjacked him at Edmonds Street and 6th Avenue. The cab driver immediately called Burnaby RCMP.
The stolen cab was recovered within an hour near the 7900-block of 18th Avenue. Burnaby RCMP checked a home in the area known for drug activity and located and arrested both suspects.
One male was found hiding in the home with weapons. The second suspect, a 32-year-old man with an extensive criminal record wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violation, was found suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
