Police are reminding youth to be wary of using drugs after a 17-year-old was rushed to hospital last week. Sidney North Saanich RCMP were called to a Willis Point area home around noon on Nov. 14 with reports of a teen in need of immediate medical attention after taking illegal drugs.

“The girl, who was visiting the Victoria area, was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later stabilized,” said Cpl. Chris Swain of the Sidney North Saanich RCMP.

Police got a search warrant, and as part of the investigation, those present when police arrived were interviewed. Illegal drugs, believed to be GHB, marijuana and ecstasy as well as drug paraphernalia were seized.

“A 28-year-old man that lives at the residence was found to have provided drugs to the girl,” Swain said. He was arrested for trafficking in a controlled substance and later released for a court date.

“The production, selling and use of illegal drugs remains a policing priority in our communities and we continue to target those that are responsible for incident such as this one,” Swain said. “We also urge youth to abstain from using these substances, especially ones they are unfamiliar with. Small quantities of these substances can be fatally harmful and even more risky if used in conjunction with other drugs.”
