Get ready to pay an extra 10 per cent for a monthly transit pass.
Cash fares won't be raised but TransLink intends to wring more money out of its most loyal passengers – the ones who tend to buy discounted ticket books or passes.
Area mayors last month approved plans to increase fares to generate part of an extra $130 million a year to stabilize TransLink's finances.
The proposed fare hikes, which are now going out for public comment, would take effect April 1.
A book of 10 one-zone FareSaver tickets go up from $19 now to $21, while a three-zone book go from $38 to $42. All-zone concession FareSaver books rise from $16 to $17.
A one-zone monthly pass will cost $81, up from $73 now. Two-zone passes climb from $99 to $110 and three-zone passes climb from $136 to $151.
Seniors, children and high school students who pay $42 a month for all-zone concession passes will now pay $46.50.
West Coast Express weekly and monthly passes are slated to rise 11 per cent.
TransLink also plans to charge an extra $2.50 add fare on Canada Line trips to and from Vancouver Airport, starting Jan. 1.
Further increases are planned for 2013 and 2016.
