SkyTrain's busiest station upgraded

A $9.2-million facelift for SkyTrain's Commercial-Broadway station has been unveiled.
More than 140,000 people pass through the station every day, which is at the busy spot where SkyTrain's Expo and Millennium Lines intersect and 99B Line bus passengers connect to go to UBC.
The upgrade unveiled Nov. 13 includes a new entrance off 10th Avenue with an escalator and elevator as well as stairs.
Officials say the redesign should reduce congestion by providing more platform space for passengers waiting for trains and better disabled access.
The province, federal government and City of Vancouver contributed the majority of funding.
Glass blocks replace some concrete walls – an effort to reduce crime by increased natural lighting and visibility – and the roof now extends the length of the platform, offering more protection from rain.
The upgrade is part of a general makeover planned for the original Expo Line stations to increase SkyTrain capacity.
Future phases depend on funding, but are to include a doubling of platform capacity at Commercial-Broadway and renovations at Main Street-Science World station, including a new east side elevator.
