The hunt for a suspect in Ladysmith and Squamish sexual assaults has expanded into the Prairies.

Regina Police Service issued a public warning Tuesday that Shaun Richard Funk, 35, could be in Saskatchewan's capital city.

Funk is wanted on two Canada-wide warrants for sexual assaults, kidnapping, robbery and break and enter.

Vancouver Island investigators quickly tipped off Regina municipal police after they learned Funk was possibly in Regina, said RCMP spokesman Darren Lagan.

But Lagan declined to explain why police are confident Funk was in Regina on Nov. 17.

Funk is wanted in connection with an alleged September sexual assault in Ladysmith, and an alleged August sexual assault in Squamish.

Police believe Funk may have travelled to Regina from Vancouver Island, Lagan said.

While Funk's method of transportation is not known, Lagan suggested the suspect may have sailed with BC Ferries and eluded capture by changing his appearance. Lagan described Funk as a drifter with no steady source of income.

"He certainly has an ability to fly under the radar, so to speak. If he has indeed travelled all the way to Regina, he's gone unnoticed by the public because a lot of people in B.C. have his photo and have seen his face through all the media," Lagan said.

Lagan said it is only a matter of time before Funk is captured.

"Ultimately, we're tracking him. We've got an idea of where he is now and we're going to keep doing that and we're not going to stop until we find him."
