A suspected high-level member of the Red Scorpions gang and a female accomplice have been taken in to custody by police following the seizure of a weapon, drugs and cash from an Aldergrove home last Thursday.

The seizure in the 26900-block of 26A Ave. involved the Abbotsford Police drug enforcement unit with the assistance of the Integrated Gang Task Force, the Langley RCMP and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Unit.

They executed a warrant at the residence at about 9:30 p.m., but nobody was home.

Found on the premises were two kilograms of packaged cocaine valued at $80,000, one kilogram of packaged methamphetamine valued at $25,000, a 9 mm handgun, a loaded magazine, boxes of ammunition, two bulletproof vests, Red Scorpions paraphernalia and $12,000 cash.

Drug and weapon charges are pending against a 34-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, but their names are not yet being released.

Abbotsford Police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald said the man is "extremely well known to police in multiple jurisdictions."

The fact that gear from a known gang was found on site is significant, he said.

"I don't think there are many people who own Red Scorpions stuff ... I don't think that's what you'd call a low-level drug dealer," he said.

The pair had rented the upper level of the home for the last four or five months.

MacDonald said there may be a misconception among the public that gang activity has dropped off following the arrests of high-level members.

"That is a myth. We still have interaction with the Red Scorpions, the UN Gang and all other gangs," he said.

"Until we can cut those feeder lines, we are going to continue to see these organizations."
