Interior Health has scheduled more H1N1 flu vaccine clinics for Kelowna this week.

In addition to the clinic held in last Saturday Saturday at Dr. Knox Middle School, four more clinics will be held this week.

They include:

• Nov. 16 at Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Nov. 18 at the Okanagan Sikh Temple Hall, 1101 North Rutland Road from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

• Nov. 20 at Rutland’s Willow Park Church, 439 Highway 33 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Nov. 21 at Rutland’s Spring Valley Middle School, 350 Ziprick Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will also be clinics in Peachland, at the Peachland Community Hall, 4450 6th Street, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Nov. 17, and in Winfield at the Winfield Seniors’ Centre, 9830 Bottom Wood Lake Road, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Nov. 19.

No clinics had been scheduled for West Kelowna this week.

Interior Health has expanded the eligibility for the vaccine to include healthcare workers, all children aged six moths to 18-years-old and people over 65 who have chronic illnesses.

Those eligible already included people considered to be at high risk of contracting the virus. Those falling under that category include pregnant women in the second half of their pregnancy, children between six months and five years of age, people younger than 65 with chronic medical conditions, people living in remote communities including all aboriginal people, health care workers involved in responding to the H1N1 pandemic, people caring for infants, people who are immunocompromised and people under 65 who live with, or care for, them.

Meanwhile, a limited supply of unadjuvanted H1N1 vaccine began arriving this week. Pregnant women are encouraged to contact their health care providers to discuss receiving the vaccine, as that particular stock is being sent to physicians who provide prenatal and obstetrical care. The unadjuvanted vaccine will not be provided through public clinics at this time, says IH.
