Police have named a suspect in a Ladysmith sexual assault and are asking the public for help in their search for him.

Shaun Richard Funk, 35, is wanted on two Canada-wide warrants for sexual assaults, kidnapping, robbery and break and enter.

RCMP say Funk was identified based on evidence from investigation into a break-in on Malone Road in late September and a kidnapping in Squamish in late August.

The former resident of Alberta and Manitoba is described as a caucasian male with brown hair and eyes. Police say he stands between 5-8 to 5-10, weighing around 150 lbs. and with a slim build. He also has a mole on his chin and "tribal art" tattoos on his upper right arm.

The Malone Road break-in was one of two separate incidents in Ladysmith on Sept. 26 where women in their 50s were confronted in their homes.

At 2 a.m., a woman living in the 100 Block of Buller Street woke up to find a man in her bedroom. She was not injured before the man fled. Police have not announced a suspect in that incident.

At 3:30 a.m., another woman woke up to find a man in the bedroom of her home in the 700 block of Malone Road. She was physically and sexually assaulted, police said.

The Squamish incident happened on Aug. 28. Police said a woman was sleeping in her parked car near a Squamish recreation centre when a man forced his way into the vehicle. The 39-year-old woman was held against her will for several hours and sexually assaulted.

Funk is also being considered as a suspect in other incidents on Vancouver Island. Police say he poses a high risk to public safety.

Police ask anyone with information about Funk's location to call 911. Ladysmith RCMP can be reached at 250-245-2215.
