Hillian tops six-man byelection field for seat on Courtenay council

Doug Hillian topped the Courtenay byelection polls with 805 votes Saturday, 151 more than runner-up Craig Millar.
Erik Eriksson was a distant third with 347 ballots in the six-man race to succeed now-Comox Valley MLA Don McRae and serve the remaining two years of a three-year term as councillor.
Mark Middleton trailed Eriksson by only 12 votes, fifth-place Kip Keylock earned 276 votes and 247 people voted for John Van Egmond.
The results are described as preliminary and unofficial by chief election officer John Ward.
